Sarah J. Bartlett - Funeral Director

Sarah grew up in the Vestaburg area and graduated from Vestaburg High School in 1994. After graduation, Sarah attended Ferris State University, Montcalm Community College, and then graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 2000. She became a licensed funeral director in the state of Michigan, after working in the funeral business for five years. She started working for Smith Family Funeral Homes in May 2001. Sarah is involved with the various duties of the funeral business, including preparation, family arrangements, coordinating funeral services and anything else that the family may need assistance with.

She resides in the living quarters of the St. Louis Chapel with her husband Josh and 2 children; Olivia and Merick. Sarah often assists at the other five locations as well. She enjoys spending time with her family at the lake and all water sports activities.


Angela S. Flemming - Funeral Director

Angela grew up in Marine City, Michigan, near Port Huron. She graduated from Marine City High School in 1985. Angela attended St. Clair County Community College, Oakland University and then graduated from Wayne State University Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mortuary Science in 1993. She became a licensed funeral director in 1994. Angela joined Smith Family Funeral Homes in June of 2007 after working in the funeral business for many years. She is involved in all areas of funeral service and assists at all six chapels with her primary location being in Owosso.

Angela resides in Ovid, Michigan with her three children, Chad, Zachary, and Hannah. She enjoys gardening, reading and spending family time together.


Chris Kaczmarek - Funeral Director

Chris grew up in Essexville, MI near Bay City.  He graduated from Bay City All Saints High School in 1984.  He earned a Bachelors of Science in Sociology from Central Michigan University before going back to school at Vincennes University School of Mortuary Science in Indiana, where he graduated in 1999.  Upon receiving his Michigan Funeral Director’s License in 2003, Chris and his family settled in St. Johns.  Chris is involved in all aspects of Funeral Service, assisting at all six chapels.

Chris and his wife Teresa have three children, Erin, Cameron and Morgan.  They attend St. Joseph Catholic Church where they are active in various parish councils and activities. Chris enjoys sports, reading and spending time with his family.


Hannah L. Smith - Funeral Director

Hannah grew up in the funeral business; she is the daughter of Sam & Carol Smith. Hannah attended Ovid-Elsie High Schools; graduating in 2006. She went to Saginaw Valley State University for two years, completing her pre-requisites for mortuary school. She then attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois, where she graduated in September of 2009. Hannah became a licensed funeral director in January of 2010.

Hannah resides in St. Johns, Michigan. She enjoys arts and crafts, spending time with family and friends, and water skiing.



Hal Rice - Pre-Arrangement Specialist

Hal Rice is a longtime resident of Mid-Michigan, residing in rural St. Johns for the last 16 years with his wife, Sally, and their two daughters. He has been active in many areas of the community, currently serving as President of the St. Johns Kiwanis and President of the Board of Directors at the Clinton County Senior Activity Center, as well as serving at Northpointe Community Church.

Hal has been a Pre-Arrangement Specialist for a number of years. During this time, he has helped hundreds of families avoid the difficult chore of making decisions at the time of the loss of a loved one by planning ahead. His mission is to insure that no one has to come into our funeral home on the worst day of their life uninformed and unprepared. Jennifer Warnke - Continuing Care/Pre-Arrangement Specialist

Jennifer Warnke is a lifetime resident of St. Johns. Jennifer has two wonderful children, Kara and Julia. Jennifer attends St. Joseph Catholic Church where she is active in various parish councils and activities, including the founding of a Mother's Bible Study in 2005.

Jennifer has previous experience as a life insurance specialist working in Michigan, Indiana, Maryland and Wisconsin, before moving into the Pre-Arrangement field. Her goal is to ensure that no one has to come into our funeral home without knowing what their loved ones wishes were. Wendy Pullen - Office Manager

Wendy was born in Saginaw, Michigan and has lived throughout the Mid-Michigan area. She graduated from Perry Baptist School in 1990, and attended Cornerstone College of Grand Rapids and Baker College of Owosso. Wendy began working for Smith Family Funeral Homes, at the Elsie Chapel as Office Manager in February of 2004. She takes care of the paperwork and artistic media for each service including; memorial cards, register books, candles, and videos.

Wendy lives in Owosso, Michigan and is a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Corunna, Michigan. She enjoys reading, crafts, and flower gardening.




Judy A. Miller - Receptionist, St. Johns Chapel

Judy began working for Smith Family Funeral Homes as a receptionist in the St. Johns Chapel in September of 1996. At Smith Family Funeral Homes we take pride in the services that we offer our families. The "After Care" program that Judy personally handles is important in helping families cope with their recent loss. She also recognizes people in our surrounding communities by sending them laminated keepsakes of their life's accomplishments. You can also find Judy helping out in our other chapels when needed.

Judy was born in St. John's, Michigan and has lived in the Elsie & St. Johns areas all of her life. Her daughter Kari, and her husband Dan, have two boys, Tyler & Travis. Her son Kore, and his wife Candi, have three children, Emily Alison & Kyle. Judy's daughter Trudy died in 1999 and leaves her children Holly & Alec. Judy attends the Elsie United Methodist Church and she enjoys being with her family, sewing, reading and working in her yard.
