Aida Magdalene Hunter age 87 of Owosso, Michigan died on Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center, Durand, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 29, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, Michigan. Rev. Duane Harris & Rev. Carol Johns will officiate with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery, Owosso, Michigan. There will be a dinner following the grave services at the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2008, from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Aida was born to Ruby L. Woodcock Bingham and Clair S. Bingham on October 19, 1920. Her place of birth was the Lytle Road Bingham Farm in Venice Township, Durand, Michigan.
She graduated from Owosso High School and attended Central Michigan University. Later she continued her education, earning credits from the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Owosso College. She was employed by the A.G. Redmond Company of Owosso, builders of fractional horsepower motors.
Aida was married to Welton B. Hunter on August 9, 1942, by Pastor C. Bernhard Lyons in Owosso. She has been an active member of the Owosso First United Methodist Church, teaching both children and adults in Sunday school classes. Aida was a Past President of United Methodist Women and has served on various church boards. She sat on the Young Women's Christian Association, Board of Directors, was President of the Shiawassee Garden Club and Mother's Club of Scout Post and Troop #83, and was a volunteer in the American Red Cross, working at Pleasant View.
With her husband, she grew flowers and enjoyed arranging them for home and competitions. Welton and Aida also shared the hobby of wreath making. She was her church and family historian, using her own photography. The small sign on her desk proudly states "Aida M. Hunter, Wife, Mother, Homemaker." It later brought her much joy to add "Grandmother."
She is predeceased by her parents; husband, Welton B. Hunter; daughter, Sue Hunter Ward; half sister, Gladys B. Archer; step-father, John E. Gilbert; step-sister, Lucille Gilbert Jacoby. She is survived by two sons, Dr. W. B. Hunter and wife, Jo-Ann of Deerfield, Il; Richard J. Hunter and wife, Cathy-Jo of Owosso, MI; brother, Clair S. Bingham and wife, Emmy Lou of Oldsmar, FL; son-in-law, Richard A. Ward of Hudson, MI; special friends, Bill & Holly Crawford of Owosso, MI. Nine grandchildren, Charles D. Hunter, Hillery C. Hunter, Christopher M. Ward, Mathew L. Ward, Richard A. Ward, David B. Hunter, Laura L. Hunter, Sara E. Redman-Hansen, and Josh J. Redman. Great grandchildren, Christopher M. Ward, Jr., Callidora, Kira Sue, Ambrosia R., and Madeline M. Ward, Grace Anne, Rosemarie and James Hunter, and Pierce Hansen.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Fund or the First United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, Michigan.
