Albert "Corky" Ensign age 82 of Bannister, Michigan died Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at the Memorial Healthcare, Owosso, Michigan. Funeral services will be at Bannister United Methodist Church, Bannister, Michigan on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will be on Thursday 6-8 P.M. and Friday 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie chapel. Pastor John Pohl will officiate with burial at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan.
Corky was born in Turner, Michigan on March 4, 1924 the son of Eugene Cashius & Anna ( Mangelman ) Ensign. He graduated from the Elsie High School with the class of 1942 and resieded most of his life in Bannister, Michigan. He was married to Alice Horton, the mother of his children. On August 26, 1973 he married Arselia Block Sehler at the Hurd School in DeWitt, Michigan. He went with his father to sell chickens and produce at the Detroit Farmera�(TM)s Market for many years. As an adult he milked cows for 17 years and he trucked cattle for area farmers for 28 years. He started working for MMPA in 1956 retiring in 1979 after 23 years of service. He enjoyed seeing his crops grow, and living in the old farmhouse. For his wifea�(TM)s convenience, he had an elevator installed. He took a strong interest in the three Assistive Technology Centers which his wife initiated. He made many friends while supporting those centers activities. One of the more moving experiences in Ala�(TM)s life was appearing for five years in the Methodist Church dramatizations of the Last Supper, in which he played the role of Nathaniel. Corky will be fondly remembered by his outgoing personality, and his "trademark Hat "!
Corky was a member of Bannister United Methodist Church, where he held many different positions in the church & was a member of the United Methodist Men. He was involved with 4-H & he volunteered for the PAM Assistance Center in St. Johns, Michigan.
Surivors include his wife, Arselia Ensign of Bannister, Michigan, 2 sons, Larry & Orean Ensign of Holt, MO, David Ensign of Flagstaff, AZ, 3 daughters, Linda & Donald Rosser of Elsie, MI, Elizabeth & Vernon Elliott of Dansville, MI, Cathy & Duane Hampton of Portage, MI, 15 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Grace & Duane Green of Elsie, MI, Marjorie Glowney of Bannister, MI, 1 brother-in-law, Edgar Zimmerman of Tucson, AZ, many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, 2 sisters; Mary Zimmerman & Lillian Terrell & 2 brothers in laws King Terrell & Floyd Glowney.
Memorial can be made to the Bannister United Methodist Church.
