Alfred Lounds

Alfred J. Lounds passed away on December 24, 2013 at the age of 86. He was born on October 7, 1927, in Sault Saint Marie, the son of George and Lillian (Pagett) Lounds and lived in St. Johns most of his life.

Al was a retired millwright from Oldsmobile, retiring in 1987 after 40 years. He was an active parishioner from St. Joseph Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister, choir member and President of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Al volunteered with delivering Meals on Wheels and was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion, having served his country during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He married Mary Arlene Lowe on September 18, 1948 and she preceded him in death on October 26, 1999. On June 4, 2003 he married Marj Parks and she preceded him in death on May 6, 2008.

Al is survived by his children, Linda (Jim) Kurncz of St. Johns, Sid (Sue) Lounds of St. Johns, Greg (Sheri) Lounds of St. Johns, Calvin (Mary Jo) Lounds of Mason, Laurie (Earl) Flegler of St. Johns, Rod (Ellen) Lounds of Grand Blanc, Ken (Susan) Lounds of Grand Blanc, Minh Hoac of Bowling Green, Missouri and Chau Hoac of Holt. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, two sisters, Audrey Ney and Ila Smith, three brothers, Don (Nancy) Lounds, Roger (Ellen) Lounds, Bernard (Linda) Lounds and sister-in-law, Deann Lounds. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Arlene Lowe, second wife, Marj Parks, sister, Betty Gilroy, brother, Harry Lounds and daughter-in-law, Julie Smith Lounds.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, with Fr. Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m., with a scripture service at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph Educational Trust Fund, the American Legion, the V.F.W. or St. Vincent DePaul.

The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
