Alice Marie Horton Ensign of Elsie passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the age of 84.
Alice was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Fairfield Township, Shiawassee County, the oldest child of Elmo and Ella Walter Horton, who preceded her in death as well as her sisters Annabelle Heath and Dorothy Fulford. She leaves her brother, Walter Horton of Owosso, and a family of five children, 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She grew up in Elsie and married Albert Charles Ensign. They lived in Bannister where she helped on the farm and helped drive the cattle truck to the stockyard. They reared their five children, Larry (Orean) of Holt, Missouri, Linda (Don) Rosser of Elsie, David of Flagstaff, Arizona, Elizabeth Elliott of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Cathy (Duane) Hampton of Portage, Michigan. Early in her life Alice enjoyed singing with her sisters in the Baptist Church as well as singing in a women's choir, the Clintonaires. She was a Stanley Home Products dealer for many years. Alice was a member of the United Methodist Church and helped elderly church members clean their homes. She lived 20 years in Flagstaff, Arizona, where she worked for W. L. Gore making artificial veins. Alice returned to Michigan eight years ago. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, playing her organ and caring for her cats.
The Smith Family Funeral Home in Elsie is handling the funeral arrangements. A viewing is scheduled for Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6-8 P.M. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel, Elsie, MI. Following the funeral, Alice will be interred at the Fairfield Cemetery, Fairfield Township, MI. Afterward, lunch will be served at the Bannister United Methodist Church.
