Alice Gilbert

Alice Yvonne Gilbert, age 71, of Elsie, Michigan passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Edwin Snook will officiate. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2010 from 6-8 PM. and on Friday, April 2, 2010 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel.

Alice was born in Sheridan, Michigan on May 4, 1938, the daughter of Adelbert and Hazel (Fisher) Simmons. She graduated from Sheridan High School and later attended Lansing Community College for her nursing degree. Alice married Donald L. Gilbert in Vickeryville on August 24, 1957. Alice was a registered nurse at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting was an avid reader and she loved to travel. Alice resided most of her life in the Elsie area and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Elsie Literary Club and a former Cub Scout Leader. She was also a member of Elsie United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband Donald Gilbert of Elsie, MI, son David Gilbert of Lansing, MI, daughter Kristal and Carl Chatfield of Greenville, MI, son Daniel Gilbert and fiancée Cindy Thomas of Ithaca, MI, son Dean and Jill Gilbert of Lakeview, MI,
son Don and Lori Gilbert of Fowler, MI, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 brothers; Leroy and Sharon Simmons of Ashley, MI, Ralph and Jessica Simmons of Perrinton, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents.
