Alice Patterson

Alice Iola Patterson, 80, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019, at her home.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel, with Pastor Joy Smith officiating.  Burial will take place at Ithaca Cemetery in Ithaca, Michigan.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Alice was born in St. Johns, MI on July 20, 1938, the daughter of Elmer and Elsie (Drayer) Ellsworth. She graduated from Ithaca High School.  On February 1, 1969, Alice married the love of her life, Dean Patterson, at Ithaca Presbyterian Church, Ithaca, MI. They celebrated 37 years of marriage prior to his death on February 2, 2006.

Alice was very passionate about community service.  She served as Past President and Vice President of the Alma Hospital Auxiliary and very involved with the Lights of Love. Alice was active in the St. Louis Senior Center and the Gratiot County Commission on Aging.  As a member of the Stitch-N-Stuff group, she made hats and stockings for newborns, pillows, heart monitor carriers and other items. Alice enjoyed knitting mittens for elementary children and blankets for nursing homes. She also helped with the Gratiot County Baby Pantry and the Red Cross. Alice was a member of the Red Hat Society and the First Presbyterian Church of Alma, MI. Her investment into the community of her time and talents has touched the lives of many people.

Alice is survived by great nieces and nephew: Kay (Jeff) Baker, Kelly Law, Kym (Willie Farrell) Coryell, Mark (Carol) Houlden, and Melanie (Dave) Bastian; many great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews, stepchildren: John Patterson, Suzie Patterson, step-grandchildren, and several cousins.  Alice was preceded by her parents, husband Dean Patterson (2006), sister Ione (Lynn) Houlden, niece Lyn (Ron) Lott, nephew Laurence (Sharon) Houlden, and step daughter Cindy Patterson
