Alice May Sowers, age 90, of St. Louis, Michigan passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church St. Louis, MI on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Terri Bentley officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery Alma, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI.
Alice was born in Alma, Michigan on March 7, 1923, the daughter of Howard and Emma (Wilson) Baney. Alice graduated from Alma College in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and English. She had worked at J.C. Penney as head cashier and Leonard Refinery as a lab technician. Alice married Wayne E. Sowers on July 21, 1946; he passed away on June 10, 2006. Alice enjoyed all homemaking activities, fishing, camping and traveling. She especially valued family traditions, reunions and social gatherings.
She is survived by her daughter Connie and James Clarke, son Michael Sowers, grandsons; Kevin Beard, Jason and Heather Beard, Daren Beard, Ben Sowers, Jacob and Shondra Sowers, and Christian Sowers, great grandchildren; Brianne Sowers, Jennah and Kylee Beard, Logan and Taylor Sowers, brothers; Raymond and Marlyn Baney, Dr. Ronald and Jean Baney and several nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Daniel Sowers, infant brother Vern Baney and sister Vera Worden.
