Allen Jeffrey “Jeff” Martin, age 78 of Middleton, passed away on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021. He was born in Elsie, MI., the son of Robert and Gathal (Bell) Martin. Jeff graduated from Elsie High School Class of 1961. Jeff is survived by his wife, Janice (Goscinski); sons: Joel (Mary) and Jonathan (Erika) Martin; grandchildren: McKenna and Jack Martin; and one sister Sharon Olney.
Jeff spent his life working in and for our forests, first with the US Forest Service in Princeton, WV as a research forester and then as a forestry professor/extension for University of Wisconsin-Madison. Following his retirement, he began a second career as a photographer, and volunteer with the Middleton Historical Society and Rowley House Museum. He was an exacting woodworker, avid student of American history, and loved being outdoors, whether he was gardening, traveling or fly fishing the Driftless in pursuit of the perfect hatch. His ideas, images, and involvement leave a lasting legacy in the lives of many.
A Celebration of Jeff’s Life will be held on May 22, 2022 from 1:00-4:00 at Lakeview Park, in Middleton, Wisconsin. Memorials may be made in Jeff’s name to the Middleton Historical Society or to the family for a Forestry Department Scholarship in Jeff’s name.
