Alta Mae Horsley, age 86, of Flint, MI passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Brian's House in Davison, MI.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday September 17, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI with Chaplain Beverly Adcock officiating. Friends are invited to call Wednesday from noon until the service time of 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home.

Alta was born in Lennon, Michigan on May 31, 1922, the daughter of Ralph and Ruia (St. John) Long. Alta married William C. Horsley on June 26, 1942 in Owosso, MI. Alta lived in Lennon until 1980 before moving to the Beaverton area. She recently moved to Woodhaven Senior Community in Flint. During the winter, she and her husband spent several months at their son's home in Mississippi. Alta worked at Redmond Corp. in Owosso as well as the U.S. Post Office in Lennon and Montgomery Wards in Owosso. She also worked for Atkinson Construction in Durand along with being a homemaker. Alta was a member of the Lennon School Board during the consolidation with the Durand area schools, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #7303 in Beaverton, and a Gold Star Mother of the VFW. Alta was a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years. She attended the Lennon United Methodist Church and different churches in the Beaverton area. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, crafts and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alta is survived by her husband William Horsley of Flint, MI, son LaVerne and Linda Anne Horsley of Carriere, MS, daughter Carol and William Clark of Durand, MI, grandchildren; Daniel and Dorinda Clark of Owosso, MI, Steven Clark of Gaines, MI, Karen Horsley of Carriere, MS, Matthew Horsley of Carriere, MS, great grandchildren; Valerie Clark of Owosso, MI, Jonathon Clark of Owosso, MI, Joseph Clark of Gaines, MI, sister Luella Hudson of Crescent City, FL, 2 brothers; Wayne Long of Burton, MI, Russel and Janice Long of Burton, MI and Dodie Horsley of Picayune, MS, mother of Karen and Matthew Horsley. She was predeceased by her parents, her son LaMonte Horsley, and her brother, Lynn Long.
