Alta Leora Sisco, age 100, of Elsie and formerly of Owosso, MI passed away Friday, January 2, 2009 at Welcome Home Assisted Living in Elsie.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 10:00 AM, Rev. Eric Stanton will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 7, 2009 from 4-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Sandusky, MI.
Alta was born in Rush Township, Michigan on October 21, 1908, the daughter of Alfred Edwin and Ida (Gable) Downey. She was raised on a farm near Carland and attended elementary school in Rush Township. She attended Messiah Bible College in Grantham, PA and continued her education at Bible Holiness Seminary in Owosso, MI where she received the degree of Bachelor of Theology. She married Eilo Sisco on November 27, 1947 in Carland, MI. Eilo passed away on April 10, 1975.
Alta was a homemaker and partner with her husband at Northside Greenhouse in Owosso which they operated for twenty years. Her interests were in flowers, books and music. She was an active member of the Carland-Zion Brethren in Christ Church all her life except for a four-year period when she lived in Sandusky, MI. She was involved in the field of administration and teaching in the church as well as assisting her husband in his duties as deacon at Snover, MI and Carland Zion.
She is survived by her daughter Evelyn and Gary Carlson of Seattle, WA, 4 step-children; Florence and David Carlson of Bradenton, FL, Grace and Dewey Hartsock of Mechanicsburg, PA, Harold and Helen Sisco of Lancaster, PA, Verna and Ramon Bundy of Holly, MI, daughter-in-law Marion Sisco of Palmyra, PA, 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, step-son, Rev. Jay Sisco, a grandson, and 2 sisters; Mable Lyons and Gladys Green.
