Alva Loder

Alva "Al" Alton Loder, age 86, of Owosso, MI passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Rose Garden Assisted Living, Owosso, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor John Walworth will officiate. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 14, 2010 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM and Thursday, April 15, 2010 from 12:00-1:00 prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

Alva was born in Barry County, Michigan on July 26, 1923, the son of Jess B. and Mary (Hause) Loder. He was raised by his father and step-mother Blanche Loder. He resided his adult life in Owosso. Al married Ina Peterson on May 20, 1944 in Owosso. Ina passed away on September 28, 1994.

Al drove bus for SRESD and loved it. He also was a caretaker for Woodard Farms for 43 years. Al was a member of the CRW Club for 15 years. He enjoyed gardening and caring for animals. He was a founding member and very active in the Owosso Seventh Day Adventist Church and it was a very important part of his life. Al volunteered his time at Memorial Healthcare for over 10 years where he was considered the Communi-call expert. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a Medic.

Al is survived by his brother Bob and Jimmie Loder of Loma Linda, CA, sister Caroline Loder Sullivan of Melbourne, FL, and many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ina, daughter Patricia Loder, 3 brothers Arthur, Henry and Herbert and 2 sisters; Martha Walworth and Josie Sinclair.
