Amy Smith

Amy M. Smith, age 88, of Henderson, MI went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 16, 2009 at Methodist Medical Center, Tennessee.

Funeral Services will be held at Henderson United Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., Rev. Herb Wheelock will officiate. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Henderson, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 20, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel.

Amy was born in Alexandria, South Dakota on March 23, 1920, the daughter of Hillar M. and Lou Ella (Carpenter) Schumacher. She graduated from Chillicothe Business School, Missouri with an Associates Degree. Amy married Leon Smith in Denver, CO on July 23, 1941. He passed away in August 1986.

Amy worked as a receptionist for Dr. Merz, Dr. Abbott and Dr. Dahlgren. She also was the Rush Township Clerk for 20 years and the Shiawassee County Board of Canvassers. She enjoyed camping, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, gardening and sewing. Amy will be remembered as a kind person to others and always helping her community. She has lived in Henderson since 1947 and has been an active member of Henderson United Methodist Church for 60 years.

She is survived by her children Gary and Linda Smith of Irmo, SC, Roger and Susan Smith of Owosso, MI, Richard and Sandy Smith of Appleton, WI, Leanne and Dennis Eldred of Norris, TN, Gregg and Barbara Smith of Bancroft, MI, 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sister Delores Daugherty of Evansville, IN, special friend Paul Leroy of Henderson, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leon, 2 brothers; Lawrence & John Schumacher also a sister, Dorothy O'Neal.
