Andrew Joseph Smolka age 81 of St. Louis, Michigan died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Schnepp Health Care Center St. Louis, MI.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mount St. Joseph Catholic Church St. Louis, MI on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 10:00 AM. Rev. Fr. Kevin Maksym will officiate with burial at Pine Grove Cemetery Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 18, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel. A Prayer Service will be held Friday evening at 5:30 at the funeral home.
Andrew was born in Wheeler, Michigan on September 21, 1925 the son of Anton and Anna ( Mikus ) Smolka. He resided in St. Louis for the last 47 years and attended Breckenridge schools. Andrew married Nancy Toporski on November 14, 1959 in Bay City, Michigan. He retired from GM in March of 1993. He enjoyed NASCAR, classic cars, motorcycles, fixing things polka music, and his family. Andrew was a member of Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Louis, Michigan.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Smolka of St. Louis, MI, 4 children; Edward & Julie Smolka of Florida, Jennifer Smolka of Washington D.C., Laura & Curt Manship of Indiana, Carol & Matthew LeCureaux of DeWitt, MI, 3 brothers John & Joan Smolka of Ithaca, MI, Joseph & Carol Smolka of Bannister, MI, Tony & JoAnn Smolka of Ithaca, MI, and 1 sister Mary Ann & Larry Stehlik of Ithaca, MI. He is predeceased by his parents, son James in 2004, and 2 sisters; Helen Stratton and Frances Smolka.
Memorials may be made to Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
