Antonine Jakus

Mr. Antonine "Tony" Jakus, age 95, of St. Johns died Saturday, January 23, 2010. Born in New Cumberland, WV on July 26, 1914 to Stefan and Frances Jakus, Tony married Teresa Hestera in February 1939 in Lansing. Tony retired from supervision at GM Saginaw Malleable. He enjoyed hunting and fishing along with cabinetry and woodworking. Tony was a member of St. Jospeh Catholic Church in St. Johns.

Survivors include 4 sons; John (Janet) Jakus, Ken (Diane) Jakus, Steve Jakus all of St. Johns, and Richard (Jane) Jakus of Muskegon; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Jakus of St. Johns; sister, Mary (Andrew) Harenchar of Clio; sister-in-law, Marguerite Jakus of Munger; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa; his parents, Stefan and Frances; three brothers, Stephen, John, and Edward Jakus; and one son, Jim Jakus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns with the Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy presiding. Interment will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday, January 22, 2010 at Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. A Scripture Service will be held at 7 PM at the funeral home.
