Arland John Carter, age 86, of Crystal, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home on Friday evening, October 25, 2013 surrounded by his family.

Arland was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on May 11, 1927, the son of John and Harriet (Rosa) Carter and grew up in Wheeler, Michigan. He attended Breckenridge High School. On July 5, 1944 he married Ruby Mae Posey, who survives him. As a teenager Arland was an avid hunter, losing the tip of a finger while hunting pheasants. After many years of hauling milk and oil, Arland settled into the life of a farmer, with dairy cattle as his main focus. He was active in the family farm business until the end of his life. He was a member of the Michigan Milk Producers Association and for a number of years served on the Board of Review for Ferris Township. He devoured every farm magazine he subscribed to, loved watching the news, sports and every weather channel he could find.

He is survived by his wife Ruby, 7 children; Mike Carter of Breckenridge, Michigan, Ed (Kathryn) Carter of Montara, California, Marcie, Wes (Mary), Kelly, Perry and Todd all of Crystal, Michigan, 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, nephews and nieces and valuable friend and employee, Jacob Weber. Arland was preceded in death by his parents, sister Virginia, nephew Billy, and his daughter-in-law Carla.

A Celebration of Live Gathering will be held on November 23, 2013 at 12:00 P.M. with a Luncheon to follow at 1:00 P.M., at the United Methodist Church, 125 3rd Street, Breckenridge, MI, 48615.
