Arlene Erma Hanley, age 93, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Green Acres Assisted Living, Mt. Pleasant, MI with her family by her side.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 5-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI. Private family graveside services will be held with Dr. Keith Wise officiating at Wright Cemetery, Alma, MI where Arlene will be laid to rest beside her husband Wallace.
Arlene was born in Mid-Michigan on November 7, 1927, the daughter of Milton John and Matilda "Tillie" R. (Palkey) Palmer. She graduated from Shepherd High School.
On August 28, 1949, Arlene married Wallace Hanley at the Forest Hill Church of Christ, Forest Hill, MI. They were blessed with 47 years of marriage prior to his passing on September 4, 1996. Prior to her marriage, Arlene worked at the State Home in Shepherd. She then dedicated herself to being a wife and mother until her children were older. Arlene then worked at CMU for over 20 years.
Arlene is survived by 4 children: Larry (Cathy) Hanley of St. Louis, MI, Timothy Hanley of Mt. Pleasant, MI, JoAnn (Joe) Dickman of Alma, MI, and Sharon Bendele of Alma, MI. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Laurie (Mike) Hale, Christina (Joe) Wilson, Amy Sue Denman, Jeffrey Eldon Hanley, Gregory Hanley, Alissa Raddatz, Jody Fetters, James (Kendra Lund) Dickman, Jennifer (Matt) Haag, David (Rachel) Bendele, Jason (Faith) Bendele, Eric (Amanda) Bendele, and Robert Bendele; 26 great-grandchildren: Sarah (Jerrod) Clapp, Ryan Hegi, Addison Hale, Brooklyn Hale, Logan Wilson, Zachary Wilson, Ethan Wilson, Kerrigan Wilson, Braden Hanley, Patrick Hanley, Sophia Denman, Adalynne "Lynn" Raddatz, John Raddatz, Logan Hanley, Keisha Fetters, Paige Fetters, TJ Fetters, Joslyn Dickman, Kairi Dickman, Kenny Galdeen, Keegan Haag, Cameron Haag, Brynlee Haag, Alexis Bendele, Ellie Bendele, Lane Bendele, and Connor Bendele; 5 great-great- grandchildren: Johanna, Oakley, Bayleigh, Kayla, and Rylee; granddaughter-in-law Amanda Bates. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wallace, her brother John M. Palmer, daughter-in-law Marleen Hanley, grandson Christopher Hanley, and infant granddaughter Julie Dickman.
