Arnold S. Bransdorfer, age 88, of St. Louis, MI died Friday, February 4, 2011 at Schnepp Health Care Center, St. Louis.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. Mr. Keith Wise will officiate. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 7, 2011 from 5-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes.

Arnold was born in Lansing, Michigan on March 2, 1922, the son of Henry and Sadie (Kohane) Bransdorfer. He married Lois Saul on June 17, 1951 in Saginaw, MI. Arnie had resided in St. Louis since 1956. He graduated from Lansing Central High School, and Michigan State College where he was active in journalism and drama. He was inducted into the State News Hall of Fame. Arnie was a proud US Navy WWII veteran, and retired with distinction from the National Guard. Arnie was a very active social leader, and moved in many social circles gracefully. He was a very proud father of six, and a memorable photographer to many members of the community. Arnie was a member of the Gratiot County Players, and Friends of the Library. He was a local historian, and had a wry sense of humor, trying many things and succeeding at some. He was an avid gardener, took much pride in his yard, and was very patriotic. He was a member of Temple Benjamin Congregation Mt. Pleasant, MI.

He is survived by his wife Lois Bransdorfer of St. Louis, MI, daughter Raye Bransdorfer-Polasek and husband Tom Polasek of Roscommon, MI, son Harold Bransdorfer of Lansing, MI, son Maurice and Robin Bransdorfer of Plymouth, NH, son Joel and Karen Bransdorfer of Howell, MI, son Rodney Bransdorfer of Ellensburg, WA, daughter Stephanie Bransdorfer of Traverse City, MI, 4 grandchildren; Vita and Reid Benson of Coloma, MI, Zachary Polasek of Southfield, MI, Hailey Bransdorfer of Howell, MI, and Leah Bransdorfer of Howell, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 younger brothers Alfred and Stephen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Theodore Austin Cutler Memorial Library or Local Food Pantry or Paralyzed Veterans of America.
