Arthur McCreary Bills, age 95, of Owosso, MI passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Memorial Healthcare, Owosso, MI.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. Rev. Calvin Long will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday prior to the service from 1-3 PM.
Arthur was born in Lock Springs, Missouri on July 27, 1916, the son of John Walter and Lillie Mae (McCreary) Bills. He lived in Owosso since 1970, moving here from Celina, OH.
Arthur married Frances Fulkerson on August 31, 1941 in Lebanon, MO. Frances passed away July 19, 2002. Arthur and Frances loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful trips throughout the world. They cherished time spent with family and friends.
Arthur served in the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corp) from 1934 to 1936 in Minnesota and Oregon. He attended the University of Missouri before enlisting in the armed services. Arthur was a veteran of WW II and served as First Sergeant in General Patton's 3rd Army. He worked as a store manager for J.C. Penney in St. Louis, MO, New Castle, IN, Winchester, IN, Celina, OH and Owosso. Arthur retired from Penney's in 1976 after 39 years. After his retirement, Arthur served as a business counselor for S.C.O.R.E. (division of Small Business Administration) for 20 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Owosso, the Masonic Lodge #81 of Owosso, Scottish Rite of Bay City, Shriner's of Saginaw and the V.F.W. of Owosso.
He is survived by 2 daughters; Mary Jane and Nicholas Wallner of Concord, NH, Linda and Charles Carr of Owosso, MI, 4 grandchildren; Jenny Wallner of San Francisco, CA, Jessie Wallner of Bloomington, IN, Sarah and Brian Arman of Minneapolis, MN, Anna and Paul Roth of Melbourne, FL, 2 great grandchildren; Charlotte Roth & Cooper Arman, sister Margaret Simmonds of Chillicothe, MO, and special friends Margaret and Delbert Alexander of Owosso, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Chester Bills and sister Erma Bartlett.
