Barbara Kanine

Barbara Louise Kanine, age 79, of Florida, formerly of St. Louis, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Moosehaven Life Care Center, Orange Park, Florida.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 11:00 A.M., Pastor George Showers will officiate and burial will take place at Jasper Township Cemetery, Midland County, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.

Barbara was born in Ithaca, Michigan on November 19, 1929, the daughter of R.G. and Lottie (Walter) Schlarf, she graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1947. On January 8, 1949 Barbara married Gerald "Jerry" Kanine in St. Louis, Michigan, he predecesed her in 1988. She resided most of her life in Gratiot County and Barbara was a member of the Moose Lodge Chapter 1633, the Apthiens, and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary of Alma. She attended Alma College and received her Nursing Degree and was a L.P.N. at the Masonic Pathways in Alma until her retirement. She was a member of Seville Church of God and also attended Moosehaven Church in Florida.

Survivors include her children Cheryl and Bill Yager of Harrison, Michigan, Ken and Sioban Kanine of San Diego, California, Linda and Pat Rodgers of Edmore, Michigan, also ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, three Sisters, Shirley, Leona, Harriet and 2 Brothers Ted, and Robert. She was predeceased by her parents, and her husband.
