Basil went to the Lord on January 30, 2025, after suffering a stroke. He was born on March 28, 1940 to Lyle and Edith (Bullard) Janes in Carland, MI. He married Thelma (Dunham) Rubey on January 20, 1979. They shared 46 wonderful years together.
He owned Oak Ridge Archery where he met a lot of great people. His passion was to hunt and fish. He went on yearly deer hunting trips in Mio for over 50 years. He liked going to garage sales to find projects to work on in his garage. He enjoyed the challenge in rebuilding the projects. He always raised animals such as deer, pigs, chickens, dogs and several more. His favorite dogs were Bandit and currently Dolly. His family was special to him. He loved it when the kids would stop over to talk and bring the great-grandkids.
Basil is survived by his wife, four daughters and one son: Theresa (Frank) Thompson of Brant, MI; Lisa (Charles) Whisman of Bannister, MI; Kelli Janes of Ithaca, MI; Kathi Wycoff of Dowling, MI; and Scott (Kathleen) Rubey of Laingsburg, MI; daughter-in law, Melvia (Frank) Quine of Ovid, MI; 14 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
