Benjamin R. "Ben? Nichols, age 76, of Vernon, MI passed away Friday, November 12th, 2010 at Memorial Healthcare Center , Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes.

Ben was born in Lennon, Michigan on May 19, 1934, the son of James E. and Minerva Nichols and resided his entire life in Vernon. He married Donna Cramer on August 28, 1997 in Corunna and she survives him.

He served in the Army as an SP3 and earned the Sharpshooter Medal and completed The Ordnance School. He also served in the Army Reserve as an SP4. He worked as a mechanic at Crawford Brothers Excavating in Vernon and Lennon Sand & Gravel. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.

In addition to his wife Donna, he is also survived by his children, Carl Nichols of Colorado, Lori Nichols of Socorro, NM., Gary Nichols of Socorro, NM., Susan Nichols of Socorro, NM., Darlene Gregg of Tucson, AZ; his step-children Herb and Roxane Cramer of Owosso, MI, Judy and Rodney Crawford of Onaway, MI, Diane and John Wright of Owosso, MI, Ruthann and Ric Crawford of Corunna, MI; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother Raymond and Doris Nichols of Owosso, MI; and his sisters Gladys and Ed Fischer of Durand, MI, and Doris Briggs of Florida. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred, Ken and Jerry Nichols and his sister Ruth Nichols

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shiawassee Humane Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Association. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Corunna Chapel Corunna, Michigan.
