Benson Dee Holiday, age 73, of Elwell, MI died Thursday, November 6, 2008 at his home with his family at his side.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis Chapel St. Louis, MI on Monday, November 10, 2008 at 11:00 AM, Pastor Roger Day will officiate. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Alma, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 from 6-8 PM. and on Sunday, November 9, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis Chapel St. Louis, MI.

Ben was born in New Haven Township, Michigan on October 28, 1935, the son of Benjamin and Iris (Gardner) Holiday. He attended St. Louis Schools. Ben married Marlene Bronson in St. Louis on August 1, 1954. Ben was a lifelong resident of Gratiot County. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed traveling. He was very outgoing and enjoyed visiting with his family with his loyal companion Chief by his side. Ben enjoyed mechanical and carpentry work also. He retired as a Truck Driver from Alma Iron & Metal.

He is survived by his bride of 54 years Marlene Holiday of Elwell, MI, son Richard and Teresa Holiday of Alma, MI, 2 daughters; Lory and Mark Snyder of Vestaburg, MI, Valorie and Mitch Holmes of Vestaburg, MI, 9 grandchildren; Chad Holiday, Chris Holiday, Melissa MacLaren, Ben Snyder, Cliff Holmes, Tricia Holmes, Nikki Kahlo, Heather Holmes, Bud Holmes, 16 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Marvel McCormick of St. Louis, MI, Darlene Moore of St. Louis, MI, and his dog Chief. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Clare, and a sister Thora. He will by greatly missed by all.
