Bernard W. Harris, 96, Bradenton, died April 11, 2010. Born in Clinton County, Michigan, he wintered in Bradenton since 1972 and became a permanent resident in 1982 from Lansing, Michigan. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific Theater, and a recipient of the Bronze Star & Purple Heart, he was also a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Bradenton, a Ranger and a Volunteer at DeSoto Memorial National Park Service of Brandenton since 1972, and formerly worked for Jewel Tea in Lansing, Michigan.
Predeceased by his wife, Lilas Mary; niece, Jean Vitous; nephew, Denny Pilmore; survived by, nieces and nephews, Lee (Bev) Rhynard of Littleton, CO, Dale (Jean) Rhynard of Littleton, CO, Lois Baumer and Bruce Omundson of Lansing, MI, Roger (Kay) Wienert of Alliance, OH, Mike (Loma) Rhynard of Littleton, CO, June Young of St. Johns, MI, Jack Birdsley of St. Johns, MI, Shirley Birdsley of West Point, GA, Don (Gayla) Walters of Laingsburg, MI, Roger (Nancy) Pilmore of Tucson, AZ, June Harris of Dover, NH; friends, Jay (Jan) Smith of Bradenton, FL, and Bob (Diana) Bowman of Bradenton, FL.
There will be no local services and burial will be in Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns, Michigan.
Memorial donations to DeSoto National Memorial Park or TideWell Hospice. The family was served locally by Osgood Funeral Homes.
