Bernard Sparks

Bernard N. Sparks, age 83 of Ithaca, Michigan passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma, Michigan.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 24, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel. Rev. David McBride will officiate with burial at New Haven Township Cemetery, New Haven Township, Michigan. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Bernard was born on December 1, 1919 in Gratiot County, Michigan, the son of Albert Chris and Mary Julia (Pickering) Sparks. He attended country schools in Gratiot County and Perrinton High School. On July 2, 1941 he married Pauline Wood in Bowling Green, Ohio. He retired in 1982 from Lobdell-Emery Corporation in Alma after 28 years of service. He loved to work in the garden and travel. He was an avid toy collector, and also in the past enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Ithaca United Methodist Church in Ithaca, Michigan. He resided most of his life in Gratiot County.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pauline Sparks of Ithaca, 2 sons, Jerry & Linda Sparks of Sumner, and Chris & Susan Sparks of Sumner, 4 grandchildren, Timothy & Jan Sparks of Jackson, Candyce & Jeff Shields of North Carolina, Angela & Jason Ostrander of Ithaca, Michael & Nikki Sparks of Ithaca, 7 great-grandchildren, Sidney & Tristan Sparks, Jared & Taryn Ostrander, Emily, Brad, & Jon Sparks, 2 sisters, Doris & Ned Martin of Ithaca, and Virginia Mancini of Grayling. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 brother, Robert Sparks, and 1 sister, Josephine Burns.
Memorials may be made to Ithaca Senior Center or Ithaca United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.
