Bernice A. Mitchell, age 80, of Bluffton, South Carolina, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend was relieved of her earthly suffering on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Caroline Coastal Hospital, Hardyville, North Carolina.

A Celebration of Her Life will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Corunna Chapel Corunna, MI on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Following private internment a light luncheon will be served at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Owosso, MI, on the corner of Washington and Oliver Streets.

Bernice was born on November 21, 1931 in Owosso, MI to Alton and Anna Graham. Corunna was her home, with summers enjoyed in Beulah, MI.

Bernice was known and admired for her many charitable, church and civic activities in the area, as well as her kind and generous attentions to her friends. She was an avid reader and had great affection for her pets, especially her dog Spanky. She enjoyed her card groups and was always the life of the party. Her contributions to the community included volunteering at Memorial Healthcare, YWCA and the Humane Society. She was an EMT for the Corunna Area Ambulance Service and entertained the patients at Shiawassee Medical Care Facility (Pleasant View) with clever costumes on holidays. Bernice was a loyal member and president of the Women's Guild Society and also Sunday school superintendent at St. John's United Church of Christ in Owosso. She was an active member and supporter of the Little Red School House Palette and Brush Art Club.

Many friends of her daughter Chris will recall the kindness with which she entertained them in their teens and she had kept in contact with them throughout the years.

Bernice is survived by her husband of 44 years, William Mitchell, their daughter Christine Mitchell, their granddaughter and husband Lara and Ross Bramer, as well as many relatives and friends who were dear to her. She is predeceased by her parents, 2 infant sons, and 2 sisters.
