Bernice Moffett

Bernice Rose "Porkey" Moffett, age 81, of Alma, MI formerly of Lake George, MI died Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Masonic Pathways in Alma, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis, MI on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Terri Bentley officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, MI. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Bernice was born in St. Louis, Michigan on November 4, 1932, the daughter of Burton Ace and Doris Rose (Lee) VanAllen. Bernice resided in Alma, and had resided in Lake George since 1975. She was a clerk at Lake George Grocery; a bartender at The Swiss Inn, and also worked at the Alma Elks Lodge as a bartender/waitress. Prior to that, she was a homemaker raising her four children. She loved flower and vegetable gardening, her dogs which included Cocker Spaniels and Weiner Dogs. Bernice loved reading and living on Shingle Lake.

She is survived by her son Quitman and Denise Moffett of Ithaca, MI, 2 daughters; Sherry and Dennis Grandy of Riverdale, MI, Sheila and Gregory Loomis of Midland, MI, step daughter Kambra Stevens of Lake George, MI, daughter in law Linda Moffett of Elwell, MI, grandchildren; Quitman Moffett Jr., Tanya Moffett, Carey Moffett, Christina Johnston, Angel Vanskike, Dennis Grandy II, Jason Grandy, Jennifer Loomis, Stephanie Loomis, Alana Loomis, Rosa Loomis, and Alex Loomis. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Rickey Moffett, sister Anna Marie Watson, brother George VanAllen who died during the Korean War, and brother Frank VanAllen.
