Bernice Ruth Smith, age 81, of Owosso, MI passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Monday, August 3, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Randall Pouliot will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Owosso Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday August 1, 2009 from 6-8 PM and Sunday, August 2, 2009 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, MI.
Bernice was born in Okemos, Michigan on September 19, 1927, the daughter of Richard A. and Emma L. (Bohm) Ohm. Bernice married Leslie Smith on December 7, 1946 in Lansing, MI and resided most of her life in Owosso, MI.
Bernice loved to watch Michigan State football and Tigers baseball games. She enjoyed working at Penguin Point Restaurant of Owosso for 10 years. Bernice also enjoyed reading and her dog, Jody was very special to her. First and foremost her family was the most important part of her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Corunna.
She is survived by her husband Leslie Smith of Owosso, MI, daughter Tonya Snell of Owosso, MI, son Ronald Smith of Owosso, MI, son Jeff and Sherrie Smith of Fenton, MI, daughter Loretta and Steve Taylor of Grand Blanc, MI, daughter Barbara Smith of Owosso, MI, 12 grandchildren; Michelle and John Grundhofer, Michael and Carrie Snell, Matthew and Stephanie Snell, Marcus Snell, Melanie Snell, Monica Snell, Melissa Smith, Melinda Smith, Frazier Smith, Justin and Erin Taylor, Jason Taylor and Jessica Taylor. Bernice is also survived by many great-grandchildren and a sister Virginia Carpenter of Houghton Lake, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, 7 siblings and a special brother-in-law Gordon Frazier.
