Bernita E. (Hufnagel) Pohl, age 94, of Fowler, passed away January 22, 2010. Born in Dallas Twp., MI on January 9, 1916, the daughter of Anthony and Anna (Halfmann) Thelen. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. Bernita married Herman Hufnagel on April 24, 1935 and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1960. Her marriage to Linus Pohl on August 23, 1986 ended with his death on March 9, 1999.
She is survived by one son, Leon Hufnagel, six daughters, Theresa Burnham, Elaine (Eugene) Thelen, all of Portland, Gladys (Tim) Wright of Portage, Germaine (David) Smith of Pewamo, Janice (Dan) Ridenour of St. Johns, and Carol (Paul) Wohlfert of Westphalia, 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and brother-in-law, Reynold Goerge of Fowler. Bernita is also survived by Linus's family, David, John, Elaine, Mary, Janice, Joanne and their families.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Hufnagel, son-in-law, Charles Burnham, daughter-in-law, Karen Hufnagel, four brothers, Joseph, Ernest, Norman, and Edmund Thelen, and five sisters, Regina Smith, Rosaline Hufnagel, Rita Goerge, Cecilia Thelen, and Amelia Thelen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler with Fr. Dennis Howard presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Westphalia. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler. A Rosary will be prayed at 8 PM Monday and 3 PM Tuesday and a Scripture Service will be held at 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
