Bessie Leora Nellis, age 100, of Roscommon, MI and formerly of Owosso passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 in Roscommon, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Monday, February 15, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. The Honorable Douglas Dosson will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 from 5-8 PM. and on Sunday, February 14, 2010 from 2-8 PM at the funeral home.
Bessie was born in Caseville, Michigan on August 24, 1909, the daughter of James Henry and Catherine (McGeachy) Ross. She attended school in Pigeon, MI. Bessie resided most of her life in Shiawassee County, having lived 7 years in Flint and most recently moving to Roscommon in 2005 to live with her daughter.
Bessie married Peter Nellis on January 7, 1934 in Flint, MI. He passed away on May 8, 1966. Bessie worked for AC Spark Plug and then Universal Electric for 8 years. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and volunteered her time at Pleasantview. Bessie loved to make pies, especially apple pies.
She is survived by her daughter Edra and Norval Park of Roscommon, MI, daughter-in-law Louann Nellis of Corunna, MI, 6 grandchildren; Keith and Lori Park of Durand, MI, Darren and Theresa Park of Corunna, MI, Penny L.V. and Douglas Dosson of Roscommon, MI, Melissa and Martin Ball of Corunna, MI, Stacy Gabold & Darrin Sloan of Flushing, MI, Christina Nellis of Corunna, MI, 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Peter Nellis and 12 sisters & brothers.
