Bessie Ann Sovia, age 85, of Owosso, MI passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility, Corunna, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday December 16, 2010 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at the Funeral Home.
Bessie was born in Owosso, Michigan on January 21, 1925, the daughter of George and Nina (Forrester) Nold. Bessie resided all of her life in Owosso and was a graduate of Owosso High School.
Bessie married Kenneth Sovia on March 2, 1946 in Owosso, MI. Kenneth passed away June 6, 1951. Bessie was a member of the Owosso VFW and DAV. She was an avid reader, especially romances and enjoyed knitting, and making afghans for family. She loved to travel, mostly to Florida for the warmer weather and northern trips, she also enjoyed eating out. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart.
Bessie is survived by her 2 sons; Thomas and Sherry Sovia of Gaines, MI, Rick and Florence Sovia of Kenai, Alaska, 1 granddaughter Marcy & Todd Haggerty; 3 great-grandchildren; Dylan, Kory and Ryan Haggerty, step brother Ward Coon of Owosso, MI, step sister Virginia Ordiway of Plant City, FL, brother-in-law Fred Sovia of Midland, MI, and 2 sisters-in-law; Carole Sovia of Swartz Creek, MI, and Shirley Nold of Owosso, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Sovia, her parents, step-mother Amy Nold, grandson Robb Sovia and a brother Richard Nold.
