Beverly Newell

Beverly Ann (Michels) Newell, age 82, of Ovid, MI, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022, at her home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI, on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating.  Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Beverly was born in Ovid, Michigan on May 2, 1939, the daughter of Alfred Michels and Helen (Hopkins) Michels.

Bev was a caretaker for 15 years.  She enjoyed cooking for others and was known for her homemade noodles and sugar cookies.  She loved feeding the squirrels peanuts and peanut butter cookies and also feeding the birds at her home.  She took great pride in caring for her yard and flowers. Her cats: Pumpkin, Lucy, Ava, Minnie and her outside cat Wanderer were her faithful companions.

She is survived by her children: Debra and Michael Coleman of Elsie, MI, James Newell of Adrian, MI, and Patti Kieffer of Ovid, MI, her grandchildren: Kristy Fry, Tabitha Barrett, Michael Holdridge, Harley Holdridge, Dustin Kieffer, and Kira Kieffer. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Staff Sergeant Ricky A. Kieffer, one sister Marjorie Cannon, and infant sister Dorothy.
