Bill Stites Sr
Bill Stites Sr. went to be with Jesus at the age of 81. He was the son of Elmer and Ila Stites. For the past 60 years he was a loving and devoted husband to Esther (Keesler) Stites. Together they had 4 children: Diana (Stites) Childers, Keith Stites, Bill Stites Jr. and Kathy (Stites) Hilgendorf.
Bill served in the Korean War during the last battle on Pork Chop Hill. During the first hour of this battle all their leaders were killed in action, causing his company to go up the wrong side of the hill; resulting in all but 3 of his company being killed. In order to get back down the hill Bill had to crawl over his companys dead bodies along with the opposing sides as well.
He worked for Simplicity Engineering Company for 19 years. He was also a Building Inspector for the City of Durand.
At the age of 44 Bill and Esther moved to Indiana in order to attend Hyles-Anderson College to earn a Pastoral Degree. In addition to his ordained degree he graduated with honors. He later became the Pastor of Fenmore Baptist Church in Elsie, Michigan for 26 years. During his life he was able to visit 20 countries. In 1974, while in Brazil, he was able to fill a great need for the Missionaries by building an airplane hanger for them.
Bill was 23 when he asked Jesus to be his Savior, God enriched his life by making it possible for him to sit under some great spiritual leaders such as: Lester Roloff, Curtis Hudson and Jack Hyles, along with many other great men of God. His life was dedicated to helping others; yet his purpose was to lead people to Christ. Today Bill is walking the streets of Heaven with his Hero and Savior Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Memory Lane Cemetery, 6305 West Lincoln Highway, Crown Point, Indiana 46307. Memorials may be made to the family.
