Bonnie Lou Harkness, age 77, of Ithaca, MI passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel Ithaca, MI on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. Sister Margo Tafoya will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Garden Cemetery, Seville Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday September 11, 2009 from 6-8 PM and on Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel, Ithaca, MI.
Bonnie was born in Michigan on April 19, 1932, the daughter of Willard and Orpah (Eastlick) Cook. She was a graduate of Fulton High School and she resided most of her life in Ithaca. Bonnie married Duane "Speed" Harkness on February 3, 1951 in Angola, IN. He passed away November 9, 2002.
Bonnie retired from Gay's 5 & 10 Store in Ithaca and worked at the Muscott Dairy Bar. She enjoyed going to the Jamboree's and the Dulcimer Festival. Bonnie was also a member of the Saginaw Valley Steam Engine Association. She was very active in the lives of her grandchildren.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter Dawn and James Peterson of Corpus Christi, TX; 3 sons; Brad and Diane Harkness of Ithaca, MI, Douglas and Marita Harkness of Ithaca, MI, Dennis and Sherry Harkness of Ithaca, MI, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sister Betty Lane of Ithaca, MI, 2 brothers; Gerald and Delores Cook of Ithaca, MI, Robert and Logie Cook of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and 2 sisters-in-law; Karen Cook of Williamsburg, MI, and Norma Cook of Millington, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers; Ervin Cook and Eldon (Keith) Cook.
