Candalee Rathbun, age 65, of Owosso, MI passed away Thursday, January 19, 2012 at her home. In recent years Candy had struggled with health challenges including dementia, heart issues and diabetes. The Lord finally called her home to peace.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Noon, Pastor Elbert Dulworth will officiate. Visiting with family and friends will be held on Saturday January 21, 2012 from 2-5 P.M. and on Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 12-3 P.M also on Monday one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
Candalee was born in Durand, Michigan on August 13, 1946, the daughter of Lyle and Lorana (Dillon) Wagner. While in Durand she was a carhop at her uncle's drive-in where she always enjoyed interacting with the customers, taught Sunday school at Durand United Methodist Church and hosted many social activities for her many friends at her parents' farm.
Candy and Joe were married on February 3, 1968 at the Owosso First United Methodist Church. Candy resided most of her life in Owosso.
Candy was the former secretary for Owosso First United Methodist Church where she was an active member, coordinating bus trips for seniors in the community. She worked as office manager for the Durand Chamber of Commerce and sold advertising for the Independent. For several years she coordinated the Shiawassee County Muscular Dystrophy Fundraising efforts. Candy was a longtime Girl Scout Leader and was active in the Owosso Band Boosters. She always volunteered at the schools to help students any way she could. Candy loved teaching her children and grandchildren how to cook. Her world was her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Joseph Rathbun of Owosso, MI; daughter Jodi Lyn (Michael Schlabach) Rathbun of Aloha, OR; daughter Carrie (Clinton Hawks) Rathbun Hawks of Laingsburg, MI; 2 grandchildren Brady Clinton Hawks and Mary Lorana Schlabach. Candy is also survived by many dear friends and relatives.
Candy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ann Wagner Watkins and a stillborn sister.
