Carl Homister

Carl R. Homister age 69 of St. Louis, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 27, 2006 after a 25 year courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. He is now united with His Lord in Heaven and reunited with his beloved grandson, Brent, whom we lost 10 short months ago.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 31, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Louis First Church of God. Rev. Samuel Dunbar will officiate with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2006 from 6-8 P.M. and Sunday, July 30, 2006 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.

Carl was born in North Star, Michigan on January 22, 1937 to Murl and Helen (Keck) Homister. He was a lifelong resident of St. Louis, Michigan. Carl graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1955. Carl married the love of his life, Connie Deline on September 28, 1957.

Carl was an active member of the St. Louis First Church of God all of his life, serving as a board member and Sunday school teacher. Carl worked at Total Petroleum for 29 years until he had to take a disability in 1987.

Carl enjoyed fast-pitch softball and he pitched for many years at the Hubble Field in St. Louis. Carl loved camping and fishing and enjoyed many years planning and taking vacations with his wife and three daughters.

Carl loved the Lord, his wife Connie, his three daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed attending his grandchildrena�(TM)s sporting events, and even thought he couldna�(TM)t do everything with his grandchildren that he wanted, he was the best Grandpa in a wheelchair that he could possibly be. Carl never let his disability get him down; he always had a smile on his face and was a great inspiration to many people.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Connie, 3 daughters; Lorna Collinge of St. Louis, MI, Lisa Beechler & Sam Cliff of St. Louis, MI, Amy & Glenn Goodrich of St. Louis, MI, 4 grandchildren; Robyn and Rebecca Brantley of St. Louis, MI, and Michael and Sarah Collinge of St. Louis, MI, father Murl Homister of St. Louis, MI, brothers Glendon & Nancy Homister of White Cloud, MI and Howard & Barb Homister of Mt. Pleasant, MI, sisters Joyce Smith of Detroit, MI and Lucille Garza of St. Louis, MI, brother-in-law Michael & Colleen Deline of St. Louis, MI, sister-in-law Sharon & Kenneth Pyman of St. Louis, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Helen Homister, 1 sister Norma Holly, and his beloved grandson Brent Carl Beechler. He is now free of pain and is in Heaven doing things with Brent that they had only dreamed of doing.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the St. Louis First Church of God, Gratiot County Commission on Aging, Hospice of Central Michigan or Michigan Chapter Multiple Sclerosis Society. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
