Carl Johnson

Carl R. Johnson, age 83, of Ithaca, MI died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Gratiot Medical Center in Alma, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will take place at Ithaca Cemetery, Ithaca, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes.

Carl was born in Ithaca, Michigan on April 24, 1927, the son of William R. and Bessie I. (Casterton) Johnson. Carl graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1945. He married Shirley Ann (Crane) Johnson on September 18, 1948 in Centerline, MI. She passed away September 23, 2005. Carl was a lifelong resident of Ithaca. He retired from Federal Mogul in 1989, and was a lifetime Mason, and an avid motorcyclist. He and Shirley enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. Carl looked forward to having coffee with his buddies at McDonalds. He was a member of Ithaca United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son Gary R. (Linda M.) Johnson of Alma, MI, daughter Charlene K. Johnson of DeWitt, MI, daughter Paula J. (Lee E.) Gotcher of Perry, MI, son James S. Johnson of Lansing, MI, 3 grandchildren;Timothy T. Johnson and fiancee Faith Chaffee of Ithaca, MI, Kristina M. Peace of West Branch, MI, Matthew R. Johnson of Alma, MI, a great-granddaughter Rowan M. Peace of West Branch, MI, sister-in-law Paula J. Cox of Lansing, MI, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, a sister Beatrice Recker, and a brother William Johnson.
