Carl Schaefer

Carl James Schaefer age 92, of Pewamo, MI, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019, at SKLD Ionia, Ionia, MI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, MI, on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 10:30 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Darrel Kempf officiating.  Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Pewamo, MI.  Visitation will be on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Goerge Chapel, Fowler, MI from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Carl was born in Ionia, MI on March 25, 1926, the son of Guttlieb and Anna (Weitzel) Schaefer. On October 18, 1955 Carl married Rita Schafer in Fowler, MI; Rita passed away on May 23, 2014.

Carl worked for Capitol City Airport in Lansing in the maintenance department, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed doing landscaping and working outside. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, MI.

He is survived by daughter Judy and Gary Becker of Pewamo, MI; 2 sons: Daniel Schaefer of Lansing, MI; Michael and Beverly Schaefer of Fowler, MI; 1 son-in-law Mark Crouch of Grand Ledge, MI; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters: Kathleen Eisler of St. Johns, MI; Monica Howard of Caledonia, MI. Carl was predeceased by his parents, wife, daughter Mary Crouch, and sister Rosie McMillan.
