Carl Shaw

Carl R. Shaw, age 88, of Ithaca, MI went home to be with Jesus on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Masonic Pathways in Alma, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Louis Church of the Nazarene on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Tom Crider officiating. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI.

Carl was born in Ithaca, Michigan on January 27, 1926, the son of O.F. and Leona (Ringle) Shaw. Carl married Audrey Jean Downs October 6, 1945 in North Star, MI; she preceded him in death on June 8, 2012. Carl resided most of his life in Ithaca. He grew up on the Shaw farm east of Ithaca where he worked with his family at the foundry. Carl also owned a Sunoco gas station in Lansing during the 1950s. He then moved to Gratiot County and worked at a foundry in Midland. After many years, he retired from Lobdell Emery in Alma. Carl was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. He and Audrey spent several winters in Florida. They were members of the St. Louis Church of the Nazarene, and were founding members of the Ithaca Wesleyan Church. He was very active in many church activities, and he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Song Leader for many years.

Carl is survived by his daughter Sandra and Glenn Hinterman of Muskegon, MI, 3 sons; Lawrence Shaw of Ithaca, MI, James Shaw of Perrinton, MI, Roger and Debbie Shaw of Hamilton, OH, 14 grandchildren; Jennifer, Brad, Chad, Jacqueline, Joe, John, Amanda, Carl, John, Nic, Matt, Bethany, Chris, and John; 22 great grandchildren; Lawrence, Mark, Rasheed, Bryan, Jonathon, Brittany, Paige, Skylar, Travis, Brayden, Kerstyn, Lilli Jo, Mikayla, Carter, Addy, Ali, Isaac, Kenzie, Lucas, Charlotte, Blake, and Brant; 2 great great grandchildren; Kaelynn and Matthew, brother Glenn and Jean Shaw of Holt, MI, sister Gaytha and Dale Tuttle of Ashley, MI, in laws; William and Keitha Downs of Lansing, MI, DeWayne Downs of Saranac, MI, sister in law Rita Shaw of St. Johns, MI, and numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Audrey, 3 brothers; Orval, Robert, and Marvin, daughter in law Carol N. Shaw, grandson Josh Metcalf; and great granddaughter Faith.
