Carol J. Cronkite age 80, of Breckenridge, MI, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017 at MidMichigan Medical Center - Gratiot, Alma, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI, on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Randy Brandon officiating.  Burial will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2- 4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Carol was born in Montcalm County, MI, on July 25, 1936, the daughter of Royal and Margaret (Birmingham) Lewis.  Carol married Victor Cronkite on May 16, 1959 in St. Louis and resided most of her life in Breckenridge.  Carol loved to garden, especially herb gardening.  She was talented at crafting and traveled with her husband to many states displaying her crafts at craft shows.  Her spare time was spent doing genealogy.  She was a member of Community Baptist Church, Alma, MI and the Red Hat Society.

Carol is survived by her husband Vic Cronkite of Breckenridge, MI, son David Cronkite of St. Louis, MI, son Mark Cronkite and Lori Klumpp of Mt. Pleasant, MI, daughter Kim Cronkite of Mt. Pleasant, MI, 3 grandchildren; Corissa Cronkite, Adam (Sarah Lawler) Cronkite and Brian Cronkite, sister Margot and Herb Kane of Charlevoix, MI.  Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Tommy Painter, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and her beloved grandmother.
