She was born in St. Johns, Michigan on May 2, 1939, the daughter of Lester M. and Hilda Grace (Kellogg) Perdew. Carolyn was a founding member of the Gratiot County 4-H Pony Club. She was also one of her dad’s best farmhands. She graduated in 1957, from Fulton High School where her love of music and theater was nurtured and carried her through to a Bachelor of Music from Michigan State University. Upon graduating from MSU, she returned to the area to pursue a career in teaching.
She met her husband, David Lewis Peacock, at Pompeii United Methodist Church and was fond of telling people she was trying to decide which of her three sisters she should introduce him to. He had other ideas and they were married in that same church on June 29, 1963. During their marriage they lived in four countries and two different states. Carolyn made homes and family in all the places they lived. They shared forty-four years of marriage, six children, five grandchildren, and many travels before he passed away in February of 2008.
Carolyn continued traveling on her own or with friends and family; going on church mission trips to Guatemala and Jamaica, a cruise to Panama, trip to Luxembourg and France to visit friends, and lots of trips to visit her grandchildren. She also continued to be active in the church, both locally and on the Board of Christian Camping. She enjoyed being part of the Gratiot County Players community theater productions, working with the Ashley Cub Scout Pack, ringing hand-bells with the Pompeii Bell Choir, and substitute teaching.
Carolyn is survived by five children: Leslie Owens, Carlos Peacock, Jeff (Vilma) Peacock, Lynne Peacock, and Suzie Peacock; numerous grandchildren and honorary grandchildren, three sisters: Kathleen (Conrad) Coleman, Linda Huyck, and Lois (Douglas) Hedley; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband David, and son Andres.
