Chad Everett Markwell

     Chad Everett Markwell, age 49, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023, at MyMichigan Medical Center, Midland, MI.

     Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes  Ithaca, MI, at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 19, 2023, with Pastor Jesse Yoder officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, MI.

    Chad was born in Adrian, Michigan on September 7, 1974, the son of Everett and Thelma Marie (Freeman) Markwell. Chad graduated from Adrian High School with the class of 1994 and went on to obtain his associates degree in criminal justice. Chad married Crystal Gifford on August 1, 1997, in Adrian, MI.

   Chad was a corrections officer for 18 years working between Adrian, MI and in St. Louis, MI. He became the chaplain at the Central Michigan Correctional Facility in 2015. He was a youth pastor for 15 years and had recently transitioned to become the Connection Pastor at Oasis Community Church in Ithaca. Chad also served as the Teen Bible Quiz Coordinator for the State of Michigan for several years until this past spring. Most of all Chad loved spending time with his family. 

   He is survived by his wife Crystal Markwell, children: Chad Jr "CJ" (Aly) Markwell, Colton Markwell, Chasity Markwell, siblings: Bill (Toni) Bradley, John (Melody) Bradley, Suzi Bradley, Nancy (Chris) O'Conner, Mary (Ron) Kidd, and Linda Cole.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Markwell and brother Steven Markwell.
