Charles Leo Leckenby age 78 of Henderson, Michigan died Thursday, October 26, 2006 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at 1:00 PM. Pastor Billie Lou Gillespie-Brown and Mr. Alex McClelland will officiate with burial at Ridge Road Cemetery Brady Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2006 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Charles was born in Chapin Township, Michigan on June 20, 1928 the son of George D. and Marcia G. ( Fowler ) Leckenby. He resided all of his life on the family Centennial Farm in Henderson, Michigan. Charles married Virginia Bowers on October 11, 1947 in Owosso, Michigan. He was a farmer and a crop duster, he would fly farmers and he soloed at 16 as a pilot. He had worked for Midland Ross Corporation , and the metal toy factory in Elsie. Charles was a carpenter and a mason and enjoyed woodworking, flying remote control model airplanes, hunting, and fishing. He built the family cabin in the U.P. and was the former Chapin Township Clerk, a Rotarian, a former member of the CB Club, and played the banjo.
He is survived by his wife Virginia Leckenby of Henderson, MI, 2 daughters; Linda Hansen & Kevin Lamb of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Marcia & Jerry Crump of Mason, MI, 2 sons; Charles & Deborah Leckenby of Livonia, MI, Wesley & Jill Leckenby of Henderson, MI, 8 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson. He is predeceased by his parents and 1 brother Karl.
Memorials may be made to Chapin United Methodist Church or Memorial Healthcare Hospice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
