Charles S. Mort, age 79, of Crystal and Chapin, Michigan passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Carson City Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Herb Wheelock and Pastor Gary Hawes officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Charles was born in Owosso, Michigan on May 26, 1935, the son of Donald Alward and Neva Irene (Carroll) Mort. He graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1953. On August 8, 1954 Charles married Helen Irene Latz in Chapin, Michigan. Helen died September 19, 2003. On November 22, 2005 he married Barbara (Waters) Ruff in Dewitt, Michigan.
Chuck was a farmer in the Chapin area, and he was the happiest when he was helping his family on their projects or helping his church. He also enjoyed family fishing vacations and watching his children and his grandchildren playing sports and was their biggest fan. Chuck and Barb wintered in Florida and enjoyed taking bus trips. He also enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends. He resided most of his life in the Chapin area and was a member of Chapin United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Mort of Crystal, MI, 4 sons; Douglas and Wendy Mort of Big Horn, WY, Darren and Lori Mort of Chapin, MI, Donald and Amy Mort of Chapin, MI, Charles and Marci Mort of Frankenmuth, MI, 12 grandchildren; Jessica and Patrick Carlin, Chelsey and Bo Red Bow, Tony Mort, Darrek Mort, Dexin Mort, Amanda Mort, D.J. Mort, Corey Mort, Spencer Mort, Lexi Mort, Brady Mort, and Peyton Mort, and 2 great grandchildren; Kate and Christopher Carlin. He is also survived by Barbra Mort's loving family of 5 children 13 grandchildren, 1 sister Carole & (Gary) Hawes, sister in law Vicki Richard, and many nieces and nephews. Chuck was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Jim Richard.
