Charles Lee Simpson, age 87, of Middlebury Township, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday morning, November 16, 2011. He was at home, surrounded by his loving family.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 1:00pm, Saturday, November 19, at Burton Community United Methodist Church in Owosso with Rev. Herbert Wheelock and Pastor Bob Tibbits officiating. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Owosso Township. The family will receive friends at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes in Ovid on Thursday from 6-8pm and Friday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.
Charlie was born November 8, 1924 on the family farm to Charles K. and Addie (Ockerman) Simpson. He married Delores Waite August 21, 1948 in Owosso. He was a farmer all his life but was also employed over the years at Toledo Commutator, Ovid Oil and Al Par Peet. He was active in the community as a Middlebury Township Trustee for 28 years, and also was a member of the Maple Grove Cemetery Authority Board.
Charlie loved the Lord and served Him in many capacities at Burton Church. He could often be seen driving his tractor to the church to maintain the grounds or work on a project. He had a special relationship with God and was known as a Prayer Warrior, spending countless hours in prayer. He loved camping, hunting, visiting the neighbors, checking on local farming, and ice cream. He was a gentle soul and a dear friend to many people.
Charlie is survived by his wife, son Steve (Susan) Simpson of Henderson and daughter Tracey Simpson of Ovid, grandchildren Chris (Jessica)Simpson, Katie Simpson (Dylan Smythe, fiance), Chaz Simpson, Joshua and Jordan Dugener and great-granddaughter Sophia Simpson, sister-in-law Marlene Waller, brothers-in-law Clendon (Joyce)Waite and Lanny (Mary) Waite and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard. The family was served by Osgood Funeral Home.
