Christine Ruth Fairchild, age 71, of Corunna, MI passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday July 17, 2009 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM. and on Saturday, July 18, 2009 from 11:30 AM-1PM prior to the service at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel.
Christine was born in Owosso, Michigan on July 3, 1938, the daughter of George D. and Minnie R. (Hemenway) Kent. She resided most of her life in Owosso. Chris married Arthur Fairchild of Owosso in December of 1953.
Chris retired from Strausine Manufacturing in Corunna. She was twice a delegate to the Democratic National Convention; meeting with two U.S. Presidents and many influential people in Washington D.C. Chris was also a dedicated Democratic champion. As a social activist Christine was a successful advocate for many national and local causes. She had an Associates Degree in Labor Relations. Chris was formerly a UAW Representative and held several different positions within that organization. Chris was an involved, funny and generous friend to all relations and all who knew her from TOPS, Bowling Buddies, co-workers, travel companions and several other organizations. She will certainly be missed by all who knew her.
Chris is survived by her son Clyde Fairchild of Corunna, MI, daughter Helen and Lorenzo Frazier of Florida, son Phillip Fairchild of Pontiac, MI, 2 grandchildren; Jeremy and Ryan Fairchild, great-grandson Jonathan Fairchild, daughter-in-law Jean Daniels of Ovid, MI, 2 sisters; Katheryn and John Rigling of New York, Carolyn Johnson-Willoughby of Roseville, MI, and special niece/sister Patricia and Rey Salazar of Lansing, MI. She is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews and many many friends. Chris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur Fairchild, son Scott Kent Fairchild, daughter Rebecca Jo Fairchild, 8 brothers, 6 sisters also several brothers & sisters-in-law.
