Claude "Slim" F. Cooley, age 94, of Owosso, MI passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Masonic Pathways, Alma, MI.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church, Owosso, MI on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Ray A. Strawser II will officiate. Visitation with his family will be held on Tuesday April 12, 2011 from 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, MI.
Claude was born in Mundy Township, Michigan on March 31, 1917, the son of Henry G. and Zella A. (Snyder) Cooley. He graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1936. Claude resided most of his adult life in the Owosso area.
Claude married Ardis Reed on June 22, 1940 in Lansing, MI. Claude worked for Redmonds for 7 years and then worked for Universal Electric/Magnatek as a Chief Inspector in Quality Control for 36 years, retiring in 1982. After retirement he was a partner with CSH Inc. He helped design and patent a mechanical float switch for sump pumps. Claude retired a second time at the age of 85 after the company was sold. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Owosso and a lifetime Mason of the Owosso Lodge. Claude especially enjoyed tending his garden, yard and flowers. He and Ardis loved to travel, traveling to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Claude was a devoted husband and father. He especially enjoyed his grand and great-grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ardis Cooley of Owosso, MI, daughter Claudia and Duane Savage of Pensacola, FL, son Philip and Mae Cooley of Owosso, MI, daughter Linda and James Stebleton of Mecosta, MI, daughter Kay Cooley of Owosso, MI, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Claude was preceded in death by his parents, sister Maxine and brother Charles.
