Clyde Gilbert Sr

Clyde F. Gilbert Sr., age 74, of Carland, Michigan died Sunday, May 29, 2011 at his sons home in Bay City.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Eric Stanton officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Clyde was born in Gaines, Michigan on April 19, 1937, the son of Russell and Elizabeth (Jessop) Gilbert. He graduated from Ovid High School with the class of 1954 and resided most of his life in the Ovid & Elsie area. On July 14, 1956 Clyde married Jo Ann Anderson in Boise, Idaho. Jo Ann died on February 8, 2011. Clyde served his country with the U.S. Marines Corp. for 9 years. He retired from Clinton Machine in Ovid, Michigan after 34 years of service. For 25 years he served on the Fairfield Township Board and was the supervisor for 18 years. He also served on the Ambulance, Fire and M.T.A. boards. Clyde worked part time for Williams Hardware in Elsie for a number of years.

He is survived by 4 sons; Donald Gilbert of Elsie, MI, Roger and Gail Gilbert of Cocoa Beach, FL, Bruce Gilbert of St. Johns, MI, Clyde Jr. "Skip" and Kathren Gilbert of Bay City, MI, 8 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren; Clyde was also loved like a grandfather by many children in the community, 2 sisters; Nancy Hehrer of Ovid, MI, Susan and Tito Valdez of Goose Creek, SC, 2 brothers; David and Kam Gilbert of North Carolina, and Jim and Helen Gilbert of Alma, MI, and sister-in-law Dolores Gilbert of Chesaning, MI. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, and brother Robert.
