Cortney Jean Craig-Nowak, age 47, of DeWitt, MI, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Lansing, Michigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 5-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI with a Rosary and Vigil held at 7:30 P.M. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 8:30 until 10:30 A.M. prior to the mass.
Cortney was born in St. Johns, Michigan on January 4, 1977, the daughter of Mark and Jean (Feldpausch) Munger. Cortney graduated from St. Johns High School, with the Class of 1995. She went on to Central Michigan University and obtained her bachelors & master’s degree. She was also in the process of completing her doctorate. Cortney married Jim Nowak on July 29, 2011, in Petoskey, MI.
Cortney worked her entire career in the education field with passion and love for children. She currently was employed as a literacy consultant at Eaton RESA and also spent many years with DeWitt Public Schools. Cortney was very active and enjoyed running, hot yoga, and walks with their dog Azzi. She loved spending time in the sun at the pool or the beach. She also enjoyed shopping trips. Cortney loved supporting her sons in their school and sporting activities. Cortney could light up a room and her spirit was infectious.
She is survived by her husband Jim Nowak; sons: Matthew Craig, Carter Craig, and Kaden Nowak; her mom and dad Mark and Jean Munger, brothers: Tyler and Brandy Munger, and Mitch and Alissa Munger, her grandmother Adeline Feldpausch, and nieces & nephews: Colby, Blake, Callie, Lexi, Maddox, Aria, and Allie. She is also survived by many aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by mother-in-law Carolyn Nowak, father-in-law Joseph Nowak, and her grandparents: Bernard Feldpausch, Reed Munger, Joyce Munger, and her aunt Lorie Munch.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peter's Sunny Day Foundation (Supporting the families of children bravely fighting cancer. The mission of the foundation is to create more "Sunny Days" for the families with more time spent making precious memories and less time spent dealing with worries and stress.) 12741 Ospreys Way, DeWitt, MI 48820.
