Daniel "Dan" George Chargo, age 69, of Owosso, MI died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at McLaren Regional Medical Center, Flint, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church Owosso, MI, on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. John Fain officiating. Burial will be held at Pine Tree Cemetery, Corunna, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, 2008, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, MI. A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, 6:00 p.m. at the Chapel.
Daniel was born in Flint, Michigan on May 27, 1939, the son of John A. and Theresa (Zsigo) Chargo. He was an Owosso High School graduate. On September 14, 1963, he married Joanne Foreman. She passed away on January 17, 1977. He then married Rebecca Bond on May 25, 1979 in Owosso.
Dan retired from General Motors Truck & Bus Plant in Flint, MI after 35 years of service, in 1993. He also worked at Jennings-Lyons Chapel for eight years as a Funeral Director's Assistant. He was a member of Union Hall #598; past secretary/treasurer of the Boy Scouts; past Little League coach; and a volunteer at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso. He loved to play golf and enjoyed fishing while wintering in Florida. Dan loved old cars and had a 1958 Chevrolet BelAir 2 door. He also enjoyed going to old car shows and listening to old music. Dan has resided in Shiawassee County since 1953 having previously lived in Mt. Morris, MI. He served his country n the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife Becky Chargo of Owosso, MI; daughter, Sheryl and Dennis Beldyga of Corunna, MI; and sons, Brian and Laurie Waite of Kokomo, IN; Steven and Kristin Chargo of Rochester Hills, MI; James and Barbara Chargo of Macomb Township, MI; and Gregory and Debrah Chargo of Madison Heights, MI; 13 grandchildren, Amanda, Brittany, Alecia, Michelle, Britton, Taylor, Luke, Ryan, Tess, Marissa, Dylan, Devyn and Gavin; his mother, Theresa Chargo of Lennon, MI; and brothers, John and Jean Chargo of Lennon, MI; Albert and Nancy Chargo of Lennon, MI; and Eugene and Vicki Chargo of Swartz Creek, MI. He is predeceased by his father and first wife, Joanne.
